Mountain Green Team is the first member school of Global Green Alliance, which is a youth-run non-profit organization to connect environmental clubs and youth groups with the resources and support required to create successful, sustainable change. We do this through various means such as membership and certifications, community events, and large scale youth events such as the International Sustainability Conference. In R.E. Mountain Secondary, Mountain Green Team has gathered a large number of motivated young individuals, successfully run projects, and become an active club of the school.
Accomplishments
Langley Green Teams Conference 2013
Our opening conference on November the 21st 2013 has given us a substantial foundation to build on. We are confident with its success not only in the number of participants but also in the high quality and innovation of discussion. The participants had the opportunity to listen to local environmental specialists as well as to participate in games and discussions! |
Mountain Compost System
The first official Compost System at R.E. Mountain Secondary composes of three bins: a recycling bin, a garbage bin, and a compost bin. There are numerous sets of bins located in logical positions within the school. Above each set, there is a poster guideline showing what belongs in which bin. The Compost System has been successful, since a large amount of garbage in the school has been reduced and the school waste system has been more effectively managed. |
Earth Week
The school's first Earth Week in the past year consisted of five days with a envinronmental theme everyday ranging from the the wild life preservation to the environmentally-friendly ways of living. The week was run in the form of games with prices, poster making, and countless other activities. Not only did it gain the reputation for the Mountain Green Team in our school, but we were also able to raise awareness about today's environmental issues. |
Various Fundraisers
Throughout the first year of Mountain Green Team, various fundraisers were held. All the funds raised were purposely used for other events, like Earth Week. Most of these fundraisers were bake sales, which were extremely successful every time, raising more than sufficient amount of money to be used for our goal of improving the environment. |
